There are a number of government funded and not for profit organisations that offer information, advice and support for the low vision community.
- National Council for the Blind of Ireland
The National Council for the Blind of Ireland offers support and services for people experiencing difficulties with eyesight. NCBI’s services includes provision of information, an employment support unit and job seeking skills programme and training in the use of assistive technology. Assist Ireland is an online directory of assistive technology available in
Ireland.
The site has a practical guide to independent living and also a list
of assistive technologies available for the visually impaired. The website is
endorsed by Comhairle: Irelands national support agency responsible for
supporting the provision of information, advice and advocacy on social services.

Enable Ireland is a service provider for people with disabilities. They offer
local services across Ireland, child and adult services and information for
parents as well as a guide to assistive technology. You can find out more about

Royal National Institute of the Blind, United
Kingdom
The Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB) offers advice, information
and support services across the UK and Northern Ireland. The RNIB funds research
projects into the prevention of low vision related diseases as well as treatment

Lighthouse International, USA
Lighthouse International was set up in New York, U.S.A. and celebrates its
one hundredth birthday this year. The organisation works with people who have
uncorrectable vision loss to remain active and independent. Working with people
of all ages, the organisation provides rehabilitation services, information and
resource guides and a number of services for professionals such as continuing
